Our story began right in our own backyard when 19 feral cats living behind our building were rescued by members of local nonprofit JAWS. These cats were spayed, neutered & fully vetted and, with dedicated support and community teamwork, placed in loving homes!

And so, we knew we wanted to be a permanent part of the solution for Johnstown’s overpopulation of stray cats. Rusty Cat Cafe’s purpose is twofold: to support the financial needs of local rescue efforts and to serve as an innovative adoption center. By housing shelter cats in our cafe rather than in cages, we increase the cats’ visibility and dramatically improve their chances of finding forever homes. Cats are curious, active beings who deserve room to play and roam, and we’re proud to provide a nurturing temporary home for them.

Rusty Cat Cafe is a relaxing environment where visitors can savor yummy food with the option to spend time with friendly, adoptable cats. But *not to worry* if you’re allergic or impartial to cats, you can still enjoy our food menu since the cafe is separate.

We welcome you to swing through and often! We open at 8am so would love to become your routine coffee spot, featuring La Prima Coffee from Pittsburgh.
