Opening January 2026, Rusty Cat Cafe proudly becomes Johnstown’s first cat cafe — a unique and welcoming space where you can enjoy delicious drinks and treats alongside adoptable rescue cats.
Our story began right in our own backyard when caring neighbors rescued 19 feral cats living behind our building. These cats were spayed, neutered, and fully vetted with the dedicated support from the current members from the Johnstown Animal Welfare Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Thanks to a committed community effort, all these cats found loving homes.
The overpopulation of cats in the Johnstown area remains a significant challenge. Rusty Cat Cafe was created to address this by offering a relaxing environment where visitors can savor a cup of coffee or a pastry while spending time with friendly, adoptable cats. Our mission is twofold: to support the financial needs of local rescue efforts and to serve as an innovative adoption center that increases sheltered cats’ visibility in a cozy, inviting setting.
By housing shelter cats in our cafe rather than in cages, we dramatically improve their chances of finding forever homes. Our cats live with us in a safe, loving, and spacious environment until they are adopted. We believe cats are curious, active beings who deserve room to play and roam, and we’re proud to provide a nurturing temporary home for them.
Whether you’re searching for a new best friend or simply want to enjoy the company of cats without having a pet of your own, Rusty Cat Cafe is here for you. Every visit supports our ongoing rescue efforts and helps keep our mission alive.
Are Reservations Required?
Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, to ensure the best experience, as we must limit the number of visitors in our cat lounge out of respect for both our guests and our feline friends. Walk-ins are welcome, but availability may vary.
Do you prefer dogs or allergic to cats? No worries! Our cafe and full coffee bar operate as a separate space where you can grab your favorite beverage and treats without the cats. (P.S. We love dogs too!)
Join us at Rusty Cat Cafe — where great coffee and loving cats come together for a community that cares.
